Georgian female wrestler Miranda Kapanadze this week claimed a gold medal in the 57 kg weight category at the ongoing U17 European Championships in Serbia and became the first-ever European champion from the country to earn the title, the Georgian Wrestling Federation said.
Kapanadze defeated her Turkish rival freestyle wrestler Ozlem Gursoy by a score of 6:3 in the final round to earn the gold medal at the tournament.
Before the finals, the Georgian athlete also defeated Czech Lana Pezic by a score of 8:0, a Russian athlete competing under a neutral flag by 8:6, as well as an Azerbaijani opponent Fidan Babayeva with an 8:0 score.
The Federation said it was the first time for a member of the women's national or age group of the country to score the result.
