Temur Ketsbaia, the former Newcastle United midfielder and ex-head coach of the Georgian national football team, on Thursday expressed his confidence about the prospect of the team’s performances at the ongoing European Championship in Germany following their defeat in the debut match against Turkey on Tuesday.

“I am proud of how the Georgian national team played. We played well and with quality, Georgian fans didn't stop [rooting for the squad] in the stands and probably everyone brought their family member, relative or friend's voice to Germany”, Ketsbaia said.

We are participants in a historic event and I believe we will play even better in the next matches. We passed our first exam with flying colours and thanks to everyone who made this day so memorable”, he noted.

While the team lost 3:1 in their opening Group F game, pundits widely praised the performance of the squad against Turkey.

Georgia will play Czechia and Portugal in the remaining group stage fixtures.
