Davit Asatiani, a Georgian lawyer, has made history by being elected as the President of the European Association of Lawyers, becoming the first representative from a non-European Union country to hold the position.

The honour comes for the law professional who currently serves as the Chair of the Georgian Bar Association for a second term.

The Association on Monday said the election of its new President and vice presidents, held last week, saw the Board also pick the First Vice President, Christoph von Wilcken from Germany and two vice presidents – Nielson Sánchez-Stewart from Spain and Michel Forges from Belgium.

In addition, Aleksandra Siewicka-Marszałek from Poland was elected as the Secretary General.

Established in 1986 by European lawyers in Brussels, the Association serves as a unifying platform for bar associations, law firms and individual lawyers across the continent.
