Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday congratulated the Muslim community of the country on the Kurban Bayram holiday, the Georgian Government said.
In his congratulatory message, the Head of Government noted the community’s “dedication and contribution to the country’s progress”, adding they were an “inseparable part of Georgia”.
I wholeheartedly congratulate Georgia's Muslim citizens on Kurban Bayram - a feast of peace, solidarity, hope, and the triumph of good. The Muslim community is an inseparable part of Georgia's history, culture and present. With your work and loyalty to the country, you are making a priceless contribution to the progress of our homeland. Therefore, your joy is a joy of every one of us”, Kobakhidze said.
Kurban Bayram, also known as Eid al-Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice, is the second and biggest of the two main holidays in Islamic religion, honouring the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah's command.
This year, the holiday began on Saturday and is celebrated by the Islamic world through Wednesday.
