Development of ties between Georgia and Singapore was reviewed on Thursday between representatives of the Georgian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee and Chairs of  Committees of International Relations and Trade and Security of the Singaporean Parliament, as well as the Georgia friendship group of the legislative body of the country.

Hosted in Singapore, the meeting saw the officials discuss development of relations between the two countries in the spheres of  trade, economy, digitalization, tourism and education, the press office of Georgian Parliament said.

The parties also focused on regional security, existing challenges of the Black Sea region and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

They also noted the economic and transit potential of Georgia and  current and planned “strategic” projects in the country, including the Middle Corridor, a logistics route connecting Central Asia and China to Europe via the South Caucasus.

Possible involvement of Singaporean companies in the projects was also discussed, with the Georgian officials raising the prospect of visa-free travel for short-term visits to Singapore for Georgian citizens.

The meeting also discussed the “difficult situation” in Georgia's Russian-occupied territories and threats coming from Russia.
