Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, on Thursday reviewed ties with Eldar Azizov, the Mayor of the Azerbaijani capital of Baku and Niyazi Bayramov, the Mayor of Ganja, the third-largest city in country, the Tbilisi City Hall said.
In the meeting hosted in the Georgian capital, Kaladze discussed deepening ties between the two capitals as twin cities.
“Georgia and Azerbaijan are connected by centuries-old friendly relations. We also are connected culturally, and I am happy that, with the support of the Georgian Government, the Heydar Aliyev Drama Theater is being built in Tbilisi”, he said.
He also thanked Ganja authorities for opening a memorial board for Nikoloz Baratashvili, the Georgian poet in the city last year.
On his part, Azizov noted Azerbaijan’s relations with Georgia as “very important” to the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The Georgian people are very important for every Azerbaijani. I would like to thank the Georgian Government for its attitude towards Azerbaijanis living in your country”, the Mayor said.
Every country in the world is facing challenges, the same applies to our countries. Therefore, establishing relations between countries and cities is essential. Any success is based on the human factor. I am always glad to meet you and I am glad to be here", he added.
Kaladze also invited the visiting mayors to Tbilisoba, the annual city festival, in October.
The Baku and Ganja mayors were on visit to Tbilisi for the 14th Forum of Local Economic Development.
