Contemporary art enthusiasts are invited to a display of works by American photojournalist John Stanmeyer at the Museum of Modern Art in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, with the selection Consciousness - A Need to Awaken organised by Museograph, a visual storytelling platform and curated by Annie Davarashvili.
On display until June 16, the exhibition highlights “salient realities of humanity” such as “climate change, environmental degradation and socioeconomic disparities across the globe in more than two decades of storytelling”, the Museum said.
It added the objective of the display was to emphasise “humankind's significant impact on Earth's systems, foster a deeper understanding of humanity's interconnectedness and provoke contemplation on the Anthropocene epoch”.
The venue also added the display featured three short films, an audio created by Stanmeyer and over 40 photos, “each with its own distinctive narrative”, noting through the photos the photographer delved into “universal stories of our humanity stories that belong to all of us”.
Stanmeyer is a National Geographic Explorer, award-winning photographer, Emmy nominated filmmaker, artist and educator dedicated to environmental, social and cultural matters to raise global consciousness.
He has worked with the National Geographic magazine for 20 years, producing over 23 stories that have resulted in more than 14 covers.
