Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said the opening of a new bridge connecting Bagebi district and University Street in Saburtalo district in the country’s capital Tbilisi would contribute to “further development” of the city.
Speaking at the launch of the bridge, Kobakhidze said the project had been carried out and implemented “with exceptional taste”, and extended his gratitude to Mayor Kakha Kaladze, the City Hall and professionals involved in the implementation of the initiative.
I remember this area a few years ago, when it was a completely undeveloped, grey space in our city”, he said in comments at the launch.
Kobakhidze told the opening the infrastructure project had “completely changed the appearance of the surroundings” “developed the entire space around” the location.
In his comments at the launch, Mayor Kakha Kaladze said elements used for the construction of the bridge had been manufactured in Georgia.
This city has great resources and opportunities, [but] it needs to be renewed and organised [...] more projects will be implemented to make our capital even more beautiful, attractive and more comfortable to live in”, he said.
Built along an existing pedestrian bridge, the ₾36 million ($13 mln), 260-metre-long construction has four traffic lanes across the 532-metre distance between Tskneti Highway and University Street.
Sidewalks, outdoor lighting networks, LED lamps, railings, insulation and drainage systems, access roads and traffic junctions were also set up on the bridge from both sides of University Street and Bagebi district.
