Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Ian Borg, the Chair-in-Office of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe and Malta’s Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, on Wednesday discussed this year’s upcoming Parliamentary elections in Georgia.

At the meeting held in the Government Administration, Kobakhidze noted that holding “transparent, free and fair elections” was “a top priority” for Georgian authorities, and emphasised his Government’s readiness to facilitate broad engagement on the part of international observers, including representatives of OSCE institutions.

The Head of the Government pointed out the importance of Borg’s visit and reaffirmed his commitment to continuous cooperation with the OSCE throughout Malta's chairmanship, the Government Administration said.

The conversation also touched on the bilateral relations with Malta. Kobakhidze thanked the Maltese side for supporting Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and the non-recognition policy of the Russian-occupied territories of the country in “various OSCE formats”.

Following the meeting, Kobakhidze highlighted “a productive meeting” with the OSCE official and said he had reiterated the country’s dedication to “further fostering stronger collaboration” with OSCE, “rooted in mutual respect and common European values”, both at bilateral and multilateral levels.
