Deputy Economy Minister highlights role of science, technology, innovation for Georgia’s “sustainable future” at UN Forum

Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Irakli Nadareishvili on Wednesday delivered a speech at the ninth United Nations Science, Technology and Innovation Forum in New York, where he emphasised the “significant” role of science, technology and innovation in ensuring the country’s “sustainable future”. 

The Ministry said Nadareishvili highlighted priority areas for the Government in technology, including artificial intelligence, bacteriophages and agriculture tech. He also announced the goal of reaching a 1.5 percent share in the country's gross domestic product total expenditures on research and development by 2030.

During the Forum, the Deputy Minister also met with Navid Hanif, the Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations and Amandeep Singh Gill, the Representative of the Secretary General of the UN in technology. 

The Ministry said the meetings emphasised the importance of the Forum’s outcomes in promoting regional and global cooperation and supporting sustainable development goals through the advancement of science, technology and innovation.

Levan Darsalia, the Deputy Chair of the Innovation and Technology Agency of Georgia and Davit Bakradze, the country’s Ambassador to the United Nations, also participated in the meetings.
