The Investigative Service of Georgia’s Finance Ministry uncovered a pharmacy selling psychoactive and “specially controlled drugs” illegally in the country’s western region of Adjara, the state body said on Friday.
The Service said its investigation had found the pharmacy had no proper permits to sell the types of drugs and was dealing “various types of medications” without prescriptions.
The body also said the facility was operated under three different legal entities “to cover up the illegal activities”.
It also said the offenders received ₾1 million ($373,181) as illegal income and laundered it by transferring the funds to bank accounts of “various persons”.
The Service also seized a “large amount” of psychotropic drugs and two vehicles belonging to individuals arrested as part of the investigation.
The crime is punishable by nine to 12 years in prison.
