Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday said the recent visit of the wanted former Prosecutor General Zurab Adeishvili of the United National Movement Government to the European Union institutions was “against the values of the bloc itself”.
For us [Georgian Government] the EU is [respected for its] values, and unfortunately, Adeishvili’s visits to the bloc’s offices are against the very values [of the EU]”, Kobakhidze told the media while commenting on the inclusion of Adeishvili in Ukraine’s official delegation to the European Union and Germany last month.
The PM also criticised the radical opposition for rejecting a resolution on the European integration of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova at the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, by saying “it is in the interests of the opposition that the country cannot make progress on the European integration path”.
Georgian officials expressed concern over Adeishvili’s visit to the EU, stressing the wanted official had been “convicted of a wide range of crimes, including torture and business racketeering for his role in the UNM Government”.
