Hikmet Hajiyev, the Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Azerbaijan, said his country was working with Kazakhstan and Georgia to attract “our Chinese friends” to develop the Middle Corridor, a multimodal transport corridor connecting China to Europe through the South Caucasus.
We took into account the recent agreement between China and Kazakhstan on the Middle Corridor. We are also thinking about signing such an agreement. Perhaps we will be able to sign a tripartite agreement in this field between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and China. We are looking forward to the development of ‘China plus Central Asia’ and ‘China plus Central Asia plus Azerbaijan’ concepts”, Hajiyev said.
The official also noted the concept of “one window” service was “crucial” for projects that crossed several countries, particularly noting its significance for Chinese companies who wanted to redirect their cargo shipments to the European market.
