Francophonie Week in Georgia opened on Monday with choreographic performance by the French and Armenian dancers at Tbilisi's Rustaveli Theatre, which was dedicated to the centenary of the birth of the Armenian legendary film director Sergei Parajanov, who was born and raised in Georgia’s capital city of Tbilisi.
The performance, created by the French choreographer Mourad Merzouki, was inspired by Parajanov’s film The Colour of Pomegranates, and the dancers showcased the combination of cultures and nations and created a multicultural atmosphere, the French Institute of Georgia said.
The opening event of the Francophonie Week, organised by the French Institute, the embassies of France and Armenia, was attended by representatives of the executive and legislative bodies, deputy foreign ministers Lasha Darsalia and Teimuraz Janjalia, ambassadors accredited to Georgia and representatives of the diplomatic corps, public and cultural figures.
The French and Armenian ambassadors to Georgia, Sheraz Gasri and Ashot Smbatyan addressed the guests of the event.
Georgia is set to host various events within the framework of the Francophonie Week from Monday to Sunday in the capital Tbilisi, the south-western city of Khashuri, Kutaisi in western Georgia and the Black Sea city of Batumi, with the guests having an opportunity to discover and get acquainted with Francophone culture in Georgia.
