Georgia exported “recent high” of 6,260 tonnes of bay leaves, spices in 2023 - Statistics Office

Georgia exported 6,260 tonnes of bay leaves and spices worth $18.36 million in 2023 in a high mark for the figures in recent years.

The latest update of the figures by the National Statistics Office shows 52.6 percent of the locally produced bay leaves and spices were exported to China.

The top 10 countries where the produce was exported were:

  1. China - 3, 291 tonnes (worth $9.89mln)
  2. Russia - 1,752 tonnes ($5.57mln)
  3. Ukraine - 427.6 tonnes ($1.06mln)
  4. Turkey - 220 tonnes ($664,400)
  5. Uzbekistan - 219.2 tonnes ($179,000)
  6. Kazakhstan - 100.3 tonnes ($168,500)
  7. The United States - 49 tonnes ($281,300)
  8. Moldova - 41 tonnes ($120,600)
  9. Turkmenistan - 32 tonnes ($37,200)
  10. Kyrgyzstan - 20 tonnes ($33,700)

The figures compare with 5,081 tonnes of bay leaves and spices exported in 2022, 4,811 in 2021 and 4,927 in 2020.

The 2022 exports totalled $11.91 million in revenue, in 2021 the figure stood at $10.84 million and in 2020 it was at $10.79 million.
