The Georgian Economy Ministry on Wednesday said Lufthansa, the largest German airline, would increase the number of regular flights to the country from seven to 18 starting in the summer navigation season.
The Ministry said Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Deputy Minister, met Bernhard Wodl, the General Manager of Lufthansa, on Wednesday to discuss the increase.
The body added the flights would be operated from Berlin, Vienna, Munich, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart.
Kvrivishvili said the promotion of more direct flights with European Union countries was the Government's “priority direction”, adding the higher frequency would expand the capacity of the country’s airports and contribute to the entry of more European tourists this year.
The meeting also noted the “fruitful” cooperation between the parties would continue and “positively affect” the numbers of European visitors to Georgia.
