Titus Corlăţean, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Romanian Senate, on Monday vowed his country’s “strong support” for Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

In his remarks following a meeting with a Georgian parliamentary delegation, Corlăţean said the two countries were enjoying a strategic partnership.

He noted the Romanian Parliament’s adoption last year of a resolution calling on EU member states to grant Georgia the membership candidate status, and further pointed out the eventual decision on the status had “positively changed the dynamic”.

We hope that accession talks will be opened with Georgia, which is very important. Romania will continue to actively support Georgia, both at the expert level and through its political connections”, he concluded.

In his turn, Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, said Romania was “one of the most enthusiastic supporters” of both Euro-Atlantic and European integration of his country.

He added trade and economic ties between the two states were becoming “more and more active”.
