Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday instructed the ministers of law enforcement agencies to develop a unified, updated plan to fight against drug crime, the Government Administration announced.
During the weekly Government Meeting earlier today Kobakhidze said it was necessary to take care of drug addicts in order to help them stop drug use, in parallel with the fight against drug crime.
I would like to ask all the relevant ministries, especially the law enforcement agencies, to develop a single updated plan, in order to make our fight against drug crime even more effective”, the PM said.
He thanked Vakhtang Gomelauri, the Minister of Internal Affairs for carrying out “several important operations” lately, but added more was needed, pointing to the facts of drug sales and consumption.
There is this established term ‘liberal drug policy’, which is an extension of the ideology that we call pseudo-liberal ideology. That is, this is one of the constituent parts of this ideological line, which we think we should oppose. This is not an ideology that can be acceptable to our society. Drugs destroy not only health, but also values. This is one of the main tasks of pseudo-liberal ideology to destroy values among young people, which we must confront”, Kobakhidze said.
The Prime Minister noted the Government should take care of drug addicts in order to help them stop using drugs.
This should be one of the main directions of our drug policy. As for sales, here we need maximum strictness, this should be our policy”, he said.
Kobakhidze also noted attention should be paid to psychotropic pharmacies.
