Irakli Karkashadze, the Director of the United Airports of Georgia, on Thursday congratulated employees of the Georgian airline industry on the “historic” 100th anniversary of establishment, coincided with International Civil Aviation Day celebrations.
In his congratulatory message, Karkashadze stressed the sector had made significant progress overcoming “many obstacles and triumphs” including the Covid-19 pandemic, which he called the “biggest challenge” for the industry following the Second World War.
Every professional employed in the airline sector has overcome the negative effects caused by the pandemic and as a result of tireless work, today we have direct air access to 67 cities in 35 countries from all three international airports of Georgia”, he said.
The Director of the airports body added 50 airlines operating in the Georgian market were “contributing a lot” to the country’s economy.
Karkashadze extended his gratitude to industry employees for their contribution to the “safe and consistent” development of the market with “high professionalism and great determination”, and noted the work of other sectors depended on their “successful” work, calling the latter the “main driving force” for the domestic economy.
