Cooperation between Georgia and Moldova and the countries’ European integration process were discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between the Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Oleg Serebrian, the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration.

The officials emphasised the “special ties” between their countries from “both historical and geopolitical perspectives”, the press office of the Georgian Parliament said.

The meeting focused on the common European agenda - in particular, the process of implementing recommendations of the European Union for granting the states its membership candidate status.

The officials also highlighted the importance of cooperation and experience-sharing between the legislative bodies of both countries.

Since June, we have [...] been sharing the process of European integration. This is a period of historical importance during which we must support each other and share experience”, Papuashvili said.

In his turn, Serebrian noted the relationship between the two countries was “special”, and added “[w]e have similar challenges, such as separatism and occupied territories”.

Papuashvili and Serebrian also reviewed regional security challenges and the consequences of Russia's war in Ukraine.
