Georgian police arrested one individual in Tbilisi on charges of preparation of premeditated murder of a family member for mercenary motives, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Saturday.
The investigation established that the individual had hired a killer to murder his grandmother, sending the latter’s picture to the killer and paying him a “certain amount of money” in advance, and promising him to pay the remaining amount after the execution of the crime.
The crime is punishable by 16 to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
A retired military veteran killed five individuals, including a police officer, and injured another five in Georgia’s eastern Kakheti region before committing suicide, the country’s Interior Ministry said on Friday.
