Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday highlighted the importance of implementing joint projects with Azerbaijan at his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev in Baku.

Garibashvili said it was the “common goal” of the two leaders to ensure “stronger economic growth, more jobs and well-being” of people in Georgia and Azerbaijan.

He also stressed the importance of the development of the Middle Corridor, the logistics route linking Europe and Asia via the South Caucasus.

We should jointly develop infrastructure - be it ports or railways. You know that we are going to start the construction of a new port this year, the construction of the Anaklia port [in Georgia’s west]. Also, we will complete the railway expansion project in about a year. Active works are also underway in the direction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. All this, of course, will help and increase cargo turnover in the direction of our region”, Garibashvili said.

The Georgian PM emphasised the “main task” of maintaining peace and stability in the region and implementing more projects.
