The European Union stands ready to step up its cooperation with Georgia to strengthen the country’s resilience, Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said on Tuesday in a phone conversation with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili.
In the call Borrell underlined the European Union's support to Georgia in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and assured Zourabichvili the EU “stands ready to step up its cooperation” with Georgia.
The High Representative appreciated the Georgian President’s position in support of Ukraine in the conversation, stressing Russia’s invasion of the country had created a “humanitarian disaster of enormous scale”, “gravely undermined” European security and was in “full violation” of international principles and international law, a statement of European External Action Service (EEAS) said.
Borrell and Zourabichvili also discussed negative economic impacts caused by Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.
