Dimitris Avramopoulos, the former EU commissioner for migration, home affairs and citizenship, on Friday said Georgia’s future was related to the European perspective and the “European family”.

Avramopoulos met Maka Botchorishvili, the chair of the Georgian parliament’s European Union integration committee, who is on a visit to Greece, and vowed his country’s support for Georgia's European integration path.

We live in an era of challenges. Georgia has gone through difficult moments in the past, but the future is very promising. The future is related to the European perspective and the European family and in this respect you have good friends in Greece, and we have always supported Georgia in all matters”, Avramopoulos said.

The Greek official also stressed Georgia was not only a “stable country”, but also a “stabilising factor” in a “very fragile” regional neighbourhood.

He also noted Georgian leaders had set a goal of putting the country on its European path, but added “I believe that you need to do more to create the right image of Georgia”.
