Ilias Zouros, the Georgian national basketball team head coach, on Sunday talked about the “pride of the nation” in the squad after its first win of the EuroBasket competition over Türkiye on Sunday.
Zouros praised the team for “fighting from the first to the last second” and noted the result had been achieved in absence of key players Goga Bitadze and Tornike Shengelia through injury.
Winning this game was very important for us. Also congratulations to my coaching staff - they did an amazing job over these few days”, the head coach told the Georgian Basketball Federation.
In a game that featured numerous twists and turns, Georgia emerged the eventual winner with the score 88-83 after two overtimes.
Following defeats to Belgium and Spain in the opening matches, Georgia will need to defeat both Bulgaria and Montenegro in the remaining fixtures of Group A to progress from the group stage. The game against Bulgaria is set for Tuesday.
