Former US Ambassador to NATO Kurt Volker: Russia's imperialist wars “did not start” in Ukraine, it “happened in Georgia”

US foreign and national security policy expert and former US Ambassador to NATO Kurt Volker on Sunday said Russia's “imperialist wars” against its neighbours had not started in Ukraine but had “happened” in Georgia, and “we can't forget that Russia is still in Georgia”.

During his visit to the occupation line on Tbilisi-administered territory, Volker stressed it was “very important” to remind that illegal ‘borderisation’ - the periodic shifting of the de-facto boundary by the Russian occupation forces- has still continued in Georgia.

“People are now focused on Ukraine, however Russia's imperialist wars against its neighbours did not start in Ukraine, it happened here in Georgia in 2008. Russia occupied part of Moldova. They are more brutal now in Ukraine, they are seizing more territories in Ukraine, but it is all interconnected, it is part of one whole. We cannot forget that Russia is still here [in Georgia]”, Volker told the local media.
