Georgia and Mexico on Tuesday signed the first-ever legal agreement between the countries to promote cooperation in the fields of culture and education, with the deal including academic exchanges and mobility, language teaching, technical and scientific research, as well as literary, artistic and sports activities, the Foreign Secretariat of Mexico said.
Coming on the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the agreement was signed by Foreign Secretary of Mexico Marcelo Ebrard and the Georgian Ambassador Zaza Gabunia at the Foreign Ministry offices in Mexico City.

In his remarks, the Mexican official said “we think that it is the best and strongest link that can exist between two nations”, with Gabunia stressing the deal was a “starting point to promote inter-institutional relations in the areas of culture and education”.
“Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Mexico […] we have never had such an important moment as today”, Gabunia added.
Providing additional details, the officials said the agreement also allowed for the creation of cultural centres, recognition of academic degrees and protection and recovery of cultural heritage. They said it also contained specific provisions to promote cooperation for the benefit of the “most vulnerable sectors” in their populations.
