Georgia’s Environment Ministry has established the Environmental Education Coordinating Council, a body tasked with improving coordination of events in the field throughout the country, the Environmental Information and Education Centre announced on Friday.

It also noted the creation of the council would allow organisations to cover more target groups and areas by conducting joint campaigns on related topics and increase the cost-effectiveness of financial resources allocated to information campaigns.

Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Agriculture Minister, who opened the first meeting of the council earlier today, stressed the importance of systematising awareness-raising campaigns due to the complexity of issues related to environmental protection and its close connection with other sectors.

An information exchange platform will also be created within the Council, allowing organisations to implement various environmental projects and exchange information about the planned events, the Centre said.
