Georgian Economy Minister, German Development Minister discuss economic relations

Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili and Svenja Schulze, the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany have discussed economic relations between the countries and outlined priority areas for future cooperation including trade, energy, transport and agriculture, the Economy Ministry announced on Friday.

Davitashvili and Schulze reviewed the planned and ongoing projects involving German support. The sides noted the recently signed agreement of the Open Programme Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings in Georgia, which assigned €55.85 million for energy-efficient rehabilitation of public buildings in the country.

The main objective of the programme is the “sustainable, holistic rehabilitation” of school buildings to increase energy efficiency and user satisfaction. As announced, the renovation measures will lead to optimised energy use and reduced CO2 emissions in targeted buildings.

They will further contribute to extending building lifetime and improving health, safety and comfort level. This will help teachers and school children work and study in better conditions", the Embassy of Germany to Georgia said this week.

In addition, the meeting emphasised the importance of Germany's support for Georgia's European integration, including the implementation of economic and structural reforms, the Ministry said.

"At the meeting, the German side once again confirmed Georgia's support for joining the European Union. It was noted that Germany supports Georgia on the path to obtaining the status of a candidate country and will help it in the implementation of reforms", reads the press-release published by the Ministry.
