Georgia’s national Greco-Roman wrestling team has returned home from the U17 European Championship in Bucharest with two silver and four bronze medals.
The team’s haul included medals by Nikoloz Botchorishvili, who earned a silver in the 45 kg category, and Goga Otinashvili, who claimed the same result in the 65 kg section.
Saba Ghambashidze (55 kg), Nikoloz Maiusradze (71 kg), Sandro Kurashvili (80 kg) and Nika Pantsulaia (92 kg) added four bronze medals in their respective weight categories to complete the result.
The European Championship closed in the Romanian capital on Sunday.
Georgian Greco-Roman wrestler Leri abuladze won a gold medal at the European Wrestling Championship in Budapest on Saturday.
The 23-year-old wrestler defeated Azerbaijan’s Taleh Mammadov in the final for the 63 kg weight category.
Georgian Greco-Roman heavyweight wrestler Iakob Kajaia has reached the finals at Tokyo Olympics by defeating Chile’s Acosta Fernandez in the semifinals. Kajaia defeated Russian Sergei Semenov in the quarterfinals, and before that he beat Finnish Elias Kuosmanen. In the finals Georgian Kajaia will wrestle against 38 years old Cuban Lopen Nunez who has won the Olympic gold medal three times in his career.
Georgian Greco-Roman wrestlers have grabbed more medals at the 47th Annual Henri Deglane Grand Prix of France. Giorgi Melia has won gold in the 97kg category, while Sulkhan Buadze and Guram Khetsuriani have won bronze in the 130kg and 87kg categories, respectively.
