Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday told the country's Parliament he hoped the "historic" European perspective, granted by the European Commission to Georgia, would be approved by the European Council and EU member states.

In a presentation of a report on the Government’s work to MPs, the PM said his team and the legislative body were “ready, motivated” to continue "all  reforms necessary for the country and the people" .

I would also like to remind everyone that a very large part of the reforms have already been put on the Association Agenda, which we agreed  with Brussels just a month ago - and this raises even more questions for me personally, on why it was necessary to first write these conditions and then only grant the [candidate] status to [Georgia] later”, the PM said.

Garibashvili also claimed "the most important achievement" for Georgia in the process was that the European Union had “opened the door” with its decision to grant the country the European perspective.

"We must, of course, show wisdom, we need calm, we must lead the process calmly, firmly and lead the country to peace. The main record and what [European Commission President] Ursula von der Leyen said publicly that the European Union had opened its door to Georgia, Europe had opened its door to Georgia. This is the most important achievement."Garibashvili noted.
