Georgian National Academy marks 100th birthday of scientist Elene Abashidze

The Georgian National Academy of science on June 1 celebrated the 100th birthday of Elene Abashidze, the Doctor of Mineralogical and Geological Sciences at the scientific body.

Abashidze is known for her development of a method relating to solubility and dimension of rocks, contributing to a change in the previously prevalent but erroneous theory of solubility.

The centenarian scientist is the author of around 540 scientific papers and 13,200 experiments in her fields of work.

The American International Institute of Biography awarded Abashidze with the title of the Woman of the Year in 1998 and 2003. She is also included in the list of the 100 Most Influential People of the World.
