The Citizens opposition party and their “colleagues'' are “ready to reaffirm” support on behalf of the political opposition for the country to receive European Union membership candidate status, Levan Ioseliani, the Vice Speaker of the Parliament, said at a plenary session at the legislative body on Tuesday.

Ioseliani said the group had prepared a joint letter addressed to EU leaders on the matter, adding the opposition was “united” regarding the European future of the country.

The MP added the opposition would confirm unity within the country behind its European aspirations by signing the document.

Ioseliani emphasised the issue was a unifying cause irrespective of other differences between the ruling Georgian Dream party and the opposition.
