Vehicle traffic in Tbilisi will be restricted due to preparations being made for marking Georgian Independence Day next week, the Interior Ministry has revealed.

Starting at midnight on Monday, traffic access will be denied on Freedom Square and the adjacent Rustaveli Avenue, with the First Republic Square, located at the other end of the Avenue, will be closed on Wednesday, a day before the Independence Day festivities on May 26.

Vehicles heading in the direction of Merab Kostava and Sanapiro streets will be diverted to Baratashvili and Tabukashvili Streets, while drivers heading to Gorgasali Street from Mtatsminda will be directed to Asatiani Street. Movement from Kote Apkhazi Street toward Baratashvili Street will be redirected through Vertskhli Street.

Traffic movement will also be restricted on the ramp leading to Baratashvili Street from the right bank of the Mtkvari River. Drivers will be redirected toward Gorgasali Street instead.

Vehicles heading from Baratashvili descent will  only access the ramp section leading toward the House of Justice.

Drivers heading in the direction of Mtatsminda will be diverted to Melikishvili Street via  Simon Janashia, Ivane Tarkhnishvili and Tamar Chovelidze streets, and onto Chonkadze Street.

Traffic movement from Chavchavadze Avenue will move through Melikishvili and Kostava streets, and further to the river bank.

Patrol Police officers will regulate the traffic flow and issue instructions on alternate routes, the Ministry said, adding regular traffic access would resume starting Friday.
