It is a very important sign that the Parliamentary delegation from Georgia is visiting Ukraine as a group of MPs from different parties, US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan said on Friday.
Degnan said the composition of the delegation reflected the Georgian people’s position that “they want to stand in solidarity with Ukraine against Russia’s aggression.”
My understanding is that Speaker Papuashvili had a very positive call with the Rada Speaker. Again, I think this misunderstanding sometimes happens because of the media and because of not being able to speak directly. The best way to solve those is face-to-face,” the US Ambassador told the media.
Degnan noted Russia was the only party that benefited when “Georgia and Ukraine were fighting,” referring to controversial comments made by authorities from the two countries on each other’s political stances and moves on the backdrop of the invasion.
The delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and involving representatives of both the ruling party and Parliamentary opposition, departed for its official visit to Ukraine on Friday.
