Sandro Mamukelashvili, a Georgian-American forward for the Milwaukee Bucks club of the United States’ National Basketball Association, has set a new record for Georgian players in the world’s leading league by scoring 28 points in a game on Sunday.
Mamukelashvili amassed the points tally in his club’s game against Cleveland Cavaliers, surpassing the previous record held by Zaza Pachulia, one of the most recognised names of contemporary Georgian basketball who concluded his NBA career in 2019.

Pachulia, who played for Detroit Pistons and Golden State Warriors at the close of his American career, had set the record of 27 points in a game.
Mamukelashvili was named Player of the Year by the Big East Conference of American college Basketball in March 2021.
Born and raised in Tbilisi, the 22-year-old is the son of Ira Gabashvili, a former captain of the Soviet Union Women’s national team.
Mamukelashvili spent some of his teenage years competing for school teams in Under 17, Under 18 and Under 19 categories in Italy, before moving to the US in 2016. On his arrival in the States, he was mentored by Pachulia while training at the Montverde Academy.
