Georgia as a partner is important for NATO, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told a briefing on Tuesday ahead of a meeting of foreign ministers of NATO member and allied states in Brussels.
Stoltenberg said he looked forward to meeting the newly appointed Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili, pointing out Georgia was the alliance’s “highly valued partner.”
Georgia is a partner which is important for NATO. I expect that NATO foreign ministers will look into how we can further step up our support to Georgia. For Georgia this could increase the support to Substantial NATO-Georgia Package, including the areas of situational awareness, secure communications, resilience and cyber,” Stoltenberg said.
The Secretary General also noted NATO could support Georgia in developing its own cybersecurity capabilities and provide additional personnel to the NATO Liaison Office in the country.
The meeting of foreign ministers of NATO member and allied states will take place on Wednesday and Thursday. The ministerial will gather officials of Australia, Finland, Georgia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Sweden and Ukraine.
David Zalkaliani, the Georgian Foreign Minister, has been invited to the meeting of foreign ministers of NATO member and allied states, with the event launching next week in Brussels.
