Tbilisi Infectious Disease Hospital will conduct a study on post-acute COVID-19 syndrome among individuals who have contracted the virus in the last two months.
The Head of Infectious Diseases and AIDS Centre Tengiz Tsertsvadze said that the study will begin in late February and will involve 500 individuals.
The study will find whether individuals have symptoms like fatigue, anxiety, difficulty with smell and taste two or more months after recovery.
Of the 500 selected participants, half will be those who underwent treatment in hospitals, while the rest will be the ones who were undergoing treatment at home.
Tbilisi Infectious Disease Hospital has a list of 33,000 individuals who have already contracted the virus. Study participants will be chosen randomly by a computer programme. Medical workers will call randomly selected individuals from different districts of Tbilisi and involve them in the research process”, said Tsertsvadze.
All clinics and medical workers who treat Covid-patients in Georgia will be guided by the results of the study in the coming future.
About 14,000 individuals have been selected in Georgia to be vaccinated for coronavirus in the first stage and all of them are medical workers, announces Head of the National Disease Control Centre Amiran Gamkrelidze.
A total of 228,410 cases of Covid-19 were reported in Georgia between February 26, 2019 and December 31, 2020, reads the fifth review of the Covid-19 in Georgia, published by the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health.

Georgia has reported 357 new cases of Covid-19 after conducting 7,172 PCR tests and 12,173 rapid tests. Out of the 357 new cases 150 were confirmed in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi. Meanwhile, 652 individuals have recovered and nine patients have died.
Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia and healthcare experts have discussed earlier today how the country is preparing for Covid-19 vaccination and following the national vaccination plan, which aims to vaccinate 60% of the population by the end of this year.
