Head of immunisation council calls vaccination of majority of population by end of 2021 ‘complete fantasy’

“Covid-19 vaccination of the majority of the population by the end of 2021 is a complete fantasy””, Head of the National Immunisation Council Ivane Chkhaidze has stated today.
While talking about the importance of mass immunisations, Chkhaidze noted that as the Delta Covid-19 variant is more transmissible and aggressive, the vaccination of only 60 per cent of the population is not enough to end the pandemic.
Chkhaidze said that at least 80 per cent of the country’s population must be fully vaccinated in order to end the pandemic.
Ivane Chkhaidze also noted that not only state agencies but also the private sector should start the information campaign along with the vaccination process around the country.
Head of the Immunisation Council said Georgia may soon start vaccinating children at the age of 12-15.
More details about the vaccination of children will be announced at the end of the week.

Georgia has reported 2,185 new cases of coronavirus, 2,010 recoveries and 40 deaths in the past 24 hours. 19,538 remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia. 31,216 tests were conducted around the country in the past 24 hours. 19,877 of the 31,216 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 11,339 were PCR tests.
The rate of fully-vaccinated teachers stands at 36 per cent in Georgia, Head of the National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze said today.
Vaccinated individuals can receive a certification of their status for the purpose of traveling abroad at the medical institution where they received their jab, the Georgian Health Ministry stated today. The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) will also issue a certificate of vaccination for Covid-19. At the request of the receiving country, this certificate can be verified by an apostille from the Public Service Development Agency.
The Georgian government has plans to vaccinate 60 per cent of its population of 3.7 million this year, head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze stated earlier today.
Georgia has reported 1,929 new cases of coronavirus, 1,914 recoveries and 33 deaths in the past 24 hours. 19,521 remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia. 32,522 tests were conducted around the country in the past 24 hours. 18,251 of the 32,522 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 14,271 were PCR tests.
Georgia has reported 1,751 new cases of coronavirus, 1,633 recoveries and 30 deaths in the past 24 hours. The positivity rate has come down to 4.1% of tested individuals for Covid-19 as of September 30 in comparison to 5.80% of last two weeks. In total, 42,657 tests have been conducted around the country of which 28,199 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 14,458 were PCR tests.
The Georgian Ministry of Education has denied rumours that teachers will be obliged to get vaccinated against Covid-19. General Director of Tbilisi Infectious Disease Hospital Tengiz Tsertsvadze told Rustavi 2 on September 30 that ‘a draft law on mandatory vaccination for teachers is being prepared’.
Georgia has reported 1,164 new cases of coronavirus, 2,292 recoveries and 33 deaths in the past 24 hours.
Mobile units will be sent to various regions of Georgia providing services for citizens who wish to be vaccinated against Covid-19. "In order to increase the intensity of vaccination and ensure maximum access to vaccination, mobile units will be sent to various settlements in various regions to provide services on spot,” representative of the Interagency Coordination Council Giorgi Ghibradze announced earlier today.
Georgia has reported 2,800 new cases of coronavirus, 1,485 recoveries and 42 deaths in the past 24 hours. The positivity rate has gone up to 8.31% of tested individuals for Covid-19 as of October 4 in comparison to 5.51% of last two weeks. In total, 33,679 tests have been conducted around the country of which 23,554 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 10,125 were PCR tests.
