Health official: Covid-19 mortality rate in Georgia is not result of incorrect treatment

Director of Tbilisi Infectious Disease Hospital Marina Ezugbaia stated that the current coronavirus mortality rate in Georgia is the result of an increased number of coronavirus daily cases and not the incorrect treatment of patients.
Georgia has reported 86 deaths in the last 24 hours which is the highest daily coronavirus mortality rate recorded.
A total of 7,649 people have died in Georgia since the beginning of the pandemic out of which 1,631 individuals died in August.
She said that the reduced number of daily infected people will not lead to a decline in the death rate yet, noting that ‘we should expect it in two-three weeks.’
Ezugbaia underlined the importance of correct evaluation of patients with mild and moderate symptoms before severe aggravation occurs.
In 80 per cent of the cases there are patients with mild to moderate severity, but in 15-20 per cent the disease progresses...progression should be evaluated correctly and patients should be placed in a clinic until severe aggravation occurs,” said Ezugbaia.

Georgia has reported 3,034 new cases of coronavirus, 3,952 recoveries and 86 deaths in the past 24 hours.
Georgia has reported 81 coronavirus deaths in the past 24 hours which is a record high figure since the country confirmed its first case of Covid-19 at the end of February 2020. In the past 24 hours the country reported 3,212 new cases of coronavirus and 5,017 recoveries. In total, 40,435 tests have been conducted around the country of which 24,334 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 16,101 were PCR tests.
Public transport in all big cities of Georgia, which was scheduled to resume on September 4, will not work until September 13, while in-person studies have been postponed until October 4 in the country to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Inter-city transport will continue to operate. Between September 15 and October 4 at least all public schools, universities and vocational education facilities around the country will offer online lessons, while kindergartners, both public and private, will be closed.
Pregnant Covid-19 patients in Georgia will be able to use online obstetrician and gynaecologist services in the upcoming days, Georgian Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia announced earlier today. She also stated that the coronavirus Delta strain ‘is riskier for pregnant patients than for other individuals.’
The death toll in completely vaccinated people stands at three in Georgia, head of Georgia's National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze said today. He stated that Covid-19 has become the number one cause of death both in Georgia and worldwide.
Georgia has reported a total of 2,684 new cases of Covid-19, 2,695 recoveries and 83 deaths over the last 24 hours. As of now the number of total confirmed cases of Covid-19 stands at 562,627 in Georgia, including 509,181 recoveries, 7,732 deaths and 45,688 active cases.
Head of the National Center for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze has called on politicians running for local seats in the October 2 municipal elections to promote coronavirus vaccination in their election campaign. "The main slogan [of the parties] during the election campaign should be [aimed at encouraging the public] to get vaccinated”, Gamkrelidze has told journalists.
Georgia has reported 1,120 new cases of coronavirus, 4,905 recoveries and 61 deaths in the past 24 hours.

The Georgian government imposed a three-week-long restrictions on August 12 as the new cases of coronavirus and daily deaths started to hit record numbers.
A total of 20.2% of Georgian population has been fully vaccinated, the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced earlier today. Based on the data shared by the NCDC the number of fully vaccinated individuals in Georgia stands at 577,162.
