415 cases of transporting unpacked building materials, processing dust-forming materials and storing them inappropriately were recorded in Tbilisi, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated at a government meeting today.

The amount of fines reached 197,800 GEL ($70,779).

Cutting or grinding dust-forming building materials without the wet cutting results in a fine of 500 GEL ($178) for an individual and 1000 GEL ($357) for a legal entity. Repeated action will result in 1000 GEL ($357) fine for an individual and 2000 GEL ($715) for a legal entity.

Kaladze also said that the sale and storage of tires, secondary vehicles, certain electrical devices and sharp objects will be prohibited near residential and recreational zones in order to ensure safety for residents.

Such materials may only be placed in specially designated areas and buildings, where the conditions of storage and sale of hazardous substances will meet safety standards.

Dust in the atmosphere has been reduced in Tbilisi with the help of planting trees and covering bare soil with different materials around trees and paths throughout the city”, said Kaladze.

Tbilisi will have special motorized street sweepers in the near future, which will also reduce dust in the atmosphere.
