Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has condemned the opening of a so-called embassy of the Russian-occupied Abkhazia region in Syria as a ‘gross violation of international law’.
The opening of the so-called ‘embassy of Abkhazia’ in Syria continues the gross violation of international law by Damascus. Syria’s violation of Georgia’s territorial integrity has been and will continue to be condemned by the international community. @antonioguterres @EUCouncil

The Georgian Foreign Ministry has also condemned the opening of the so-called embassy earlier today. It said both the recognition of Georgia’s occupied regions as independent states by Syria and the opening of the ‘embassy’ are the results of Russian pressure.
Meanwhile, the de facto leader of occupied Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania has thanked Syrian president Bashar al-Assad for the opening of so-called Abkhaz embassy in Damascus as well as for the latter's ‘historic decision’ to declare the region’s independence back in 2018.
Following the Russia-Georgia military conflict in 2008, two Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) have been recognised as independent states by Russia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru and Syria only.
The rest of the international community is unanimous that both Georgian regions are occupied by Russia.
