The European Union and the World Health Organisation have sent 16,800 goggles and 10,000 medical gowns to Georgia to help in the fight against COVID-19.

The medical supplies will contribute to the safety of frontline health-care workers... The donation of the personal protective equipment with WHO is part of the European Union’s response to the outbreak of COVID-19 in Georgia. Further medical based support, implemented with WHO, will include training for health-care workers and frontline responders”, reads an official statement published by the EU in Georgia.
The assistance is part of a wider package of EU support for Georgia of over €400 million (almost 1.5 billion GEL), which includes support to vulnerable groups and economic recovery.
In total, the EU has committed over 15 billion euros globally to support partner countries combat COVID-19.
Ambassador of Georgia to the UN Office in Geneva Alexandre Maisuradze and Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus have discussed the current coronavirus situation in Georgia and the measures taken by the Georgian government in response to the coronavirus crisis at today's meeting, announces the Georgian Foreign Ministry.
The EU has announced three new projects to help victims of domestic violence, IDPs, and persons with disabilities across Georgia cope with the Covid-19 crisis, the EU representation in Georgia stated earlier today.
The European Commission has adopted a proposal for a COVID-19 support package for Georgia comprised of €150 million to help the country limit the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic.
Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has thanked EU Ambassador Carl Hartzell and US Ambassador Kelly Degnan for their efforts to provide rapid support for Georgia in the fight against the coronavirus. Gakharia said that the support of the country’s partners will be particularly essential in the post-crisis period to help the economy.
The European Union has allocated €100 mln to support Georgia amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Georgian state institutions, Public Defender’s Office, State Inspector’s Office and local authorities will be involved in the project.
The European Union has mobilised 1.5 billion GEL to support Georgia during the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020. This is ‘one of the highest levels of EU assistance per capita to any country in the world and demonstrates the EU’s strong solidarity with Georgia at this time of unprecedented crisis’.
