Dutch National Ballet principal dancer Maia Makhateli, Georgia's award-winning stage artist, is one of 11 performers selected as nominees of the 2020 Dancer of the Year Award by Dance Europe magazine.

The soloist has been picked for the latest round of the annual honours, with audience vote influencing the decision on the ultimate recipient of the publication's prize. The shortlist features 10 individual dancers and a duo, selected by writers of the magazine.

Makhateli is alongside Brandon Lawrence, Dorothée Gilbert, Friedemann Vogel, Maria Alexandrova and Vladislav Lantratov, Polina Semionova, Qian Liu, Reece Clarke, Sasha De Sola, Vadim Muntagirov and Yui Yonezawa in the list up for the award.

Readers and dance enthusiasts can vote by emailing their pick to media@danceeurope.net, with the deadline of October 31.

The Georgian-born soloist was nominated for the award in recent years, beside being named Dance Europe Critics' Choice of the Year in 2015 for Outstanding Performance by a Female Dancer.

Makhateli was awarded the prestigious Alexandra Radius Prize in 2015 in Amsterdam, where she has been based since joining the Netherlands' principal company in 2007. Her honours also include the 2011 Nina Ananiashvili and Gilbert Albert Award 'Star' and a nomination for the Benois de la Danse prize.
