Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia met with the CEO of ENEL – an Italian, multinational energy company – Francesco Starace yesterday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum which is taking place in Davos, Switzerland.
Gakharia spoke about the investment environment of the country and the opportunities Georgia has for investors in the energy sector. He noted the potential of Georgia in hydro, wind and solar power generation.
We have received clear and detailed information about the investment potential of Georgia…We have discussed the need for intensive continuation of processes which support the integration of energy systems and development of transit energy between Georgia and its strategic partners,” said Starace.
CEO of ENEL, Starace added that ENEL will visit Georgia to further study the investment opportunities of the country in the energy sector.
ENEL operates in the sectors of electricity generation and distribution, as well as in the distribution of natural gas.

Gakharia also met with the CEO of Siemens Energy and member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG Michael Sen.
Georgia’s strategic geographical locations and convenient investment environment was noted at the meeting.
Gakharia invited the representatives of Siemens Energy to Georgia to better understand the investment and production opportunities of the country.
Siemens Energy expressed interest in cooperating with Georgia.
The company operates in the fields of industry, energy, healthcare and infrastructure.
Siemens Energy generates and delivers power from different sources including extraction, conversion and transport of oil and natural gas as well as renewable and alternative energy sources.

Gakharia met with Rafael Mateo, the CEO of Energy at ACCIONA, Spanish conglomerate in infrastructure and renewable energy. Gakharia and Mateo discussed opportunities in Georgia in the development of wind, solar and power stations.
The rich hydro resources and energy transit opportunities were also discussed.
Gakharia spoke about Georgia's energy sector, saying Georgia is a reliable partner that has a leading ranking in the ease of doing business all over the world.
The ACCIONA delegation will continue to negotiate with the government of Georgia on the possible construction of a 200 megawatt wind powerplant in the country.
