52 states recognise Georgian seafarers’ certificates

The certificates of Georgian seafarers are recognised by 52 countries around the world, announces the Georgian Ministry of Economy.
"In 2020, we received recognition from two very important countries, Australia and the United Kingdom, which means that two more job markets have been opened for Georgian seafarers and crewing companies. Both countries have very high standards, so the recognition of Australia and the United Kingdom can be considered [a display of] trust towards Georgian seafarers and the Georgian maritime education", says the Ministry of Economy.
In addition, with the recognition of the United Kingdom, Georgian sailors will be able to work on ships sailing under the flags of the Cayman Islands, the Isle of Man, Gibraltar, Bermuda and other territories dependent on Britain, the ministry says.
Georgian seafarers can now be employed in Australian maritime industry as a relevant Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the two countries.
Georgia is ready to perform the function of a transit country in the process of the repatriation of seafarers starting June 15, announces the Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava. Turnava said that Georgia has taken into account the guidelines and requirements of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), which, despite the strict safety standards, greatly simplifies the process of moving seafarers across the country.
Georgian sailors now have the opportunity to be employed on British commercial ships, Georgia’s Maritime Transport Agency (MTA) reports.
Georgian sailors have received Certificates of Commendation of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) for “exceptional bravery at sea”.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia has helped about 1,200 Georgian sailors and 100 sailors from other countries return home through so-called ‘green corridors.’
Georgian seafarers can now be employed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) maritime industry as a result of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Ministry of Economy of Georgia and the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of the UAE.
Georgian seafarers saved the lives of 52 people, including seven women and three children, in the Atlantic Ocean during a five-point storm last week, the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia announced on Wednesday.
