The State Inspector’s Service launched criminal prosecution against five law enforcers in 2019, the State Inspector Londa Toloraia said while delivering an annual report to parliament.

Toloraia mentioned that citizens are often subjugated to physical and psychological abuse from employees of temporary detention centres.

One of the most important pieces of evidence for the State Inspector’s Service is health-assessment conclusions, as mainly cases are related to physical violence. In 2019, the agency conducted 59 health-assessment procedures and launched an investigation into one case, when a law enforcer forced an individual into giving testimony”, said Toloraia.

The State Inspector also mentioned that it is looking to rectify privacy violations when video cameras record sound in addition to image.

As a result of observing several public and private schools, the State Inspector’s Service found that some educational institutions had video surveillance systems not only in corridors, but also inside bathrooms. The report of the agency reads that ‘school staff didn’t consider such video monitoring a violation of private life’.
