Georgia has already supported over 72,000 people who have lost their jobs amid the coronavirus crisis with more than 14 million GEL ($4.41 mln/€3.96 mln) in total, while it helped over 51,000 self-employed people with more than 15 million GEL ($4.72 mln/€4.24 mln) in total, said Georgian Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze.
She added that as of May, social support has already been fully distributed to families that have a rating score from the Social Service Agency between 65,000 - 100,000, and to families with children with disabilities and with many children.
Tikaradze said that applications for assistance will be received until July 1 and thus the government will support people gradually. She added that the commission will try to help people in a timely manner and without any interruption.
Based on the government’s coronavirus anti-crisis plan, people who lost their jobs because of the coronavirus crisis or are on unpaid leave receive 1,200 GEL ($378/€339) over the course of six months, which is 200 GEL ($63/€57) per month.
In addition, based on the plan, people employed in the informal sector or self-employed individuals will receive one-time assistance of 300 GEL ($94/€85) if they can substantiate claims of job loss – the budget for this is 75 million GEL (about $23.6 mln/€21.2 mln).
As of June 1, in total 104,818 self-employed people have registered to receive one-time assistance of 300 GEL ($94/€85) from the government of Georgia in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
