Georgia defeats Germany, wins Rugby Europe Championship

Georgia’s national rugby team has defeated Germany in the Rugby Europe Championship in the western Georgian town of Kutaisi today.

The Georgian ‘Lelos’ handed a defeat to Germany 52 to 3.

With today's victory against Germany, the Georgian team has emerged the winner of the Rugby Europe Championship even before the final round.

The 'Lelos' won the championship last year as well. 

Rugby Europe Championship is the premier rugby union competition outside of the Six Nations Championship in Europe in which Georgia, Germany, Russia, Spain, Belgium and Romania compete for the title.

On their previous games Georgian ‘Lelos’ defeated:

  • Belgium 46 to 6 in the Belgian capital of Brussels;
  • Spain 24 to 10 in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi;
  • Romania – with 18 to 9 in Romanian city of Cluj. 

Despite today's victory, Georgia will hold its final match against Russia in the Russian city of Krasnodar on March 17.
