A report released by the State Commission on Migration reads that 46 per cent of Georgian families [2018] that have a family member abroad depend on this individual for their only income.

In 2015-2017 foreign direct investments were more than money transfers come in Georgia, but in 2018 the situation changed. In 2018, money transfers were 200 million GEL more than foreign direct investments in 2018, says the report.
In the last four years, money transfers from abroad increased by 32 per cent, says the report. The biggest amount of money transfers comes from Russia, says the report. The report notes that in recent years money transfers are increased from Israel and Europe.
The amount of money transfers to Georgia in September 2019 was $149.8 million, which is a 13.9 per cent increase compared to September 2018.
More than one-third of money transfers come in from the European Union:
- EU countries - $56.91 million (38%)
- Other countries - $92.86 million (62%)
The largest countries from which money transfers entering Georgia were the following:
- Russia - $36.3 million (24.24%)
- Italy –$21.08 million (14.07%)
- Greece – $15.92 million (10.63%)
- US – $15.39 million (10.28%)
- Israel – $13.55 million (9.05%)
The amount of money transfers to Georgia in September 2019 was $149.8 million, which is a 13.9 per cent increase compared to September 2018.
The amount of money transfers entering Georgia in August 2019 was $146.4 million, which is a 7.8 per cent increase compared to August 2018.
Georgia received $154.5 million from abroad in July 2019, which is 7% more than the amount in July 2018, says the National Bank of Georgia.
The number of Georgians returning back to homeland from Russia has increased 10 times over the past 10 years, Georgia’s State Commission on Migration Issues reports.
The volume of money transfers to Georgia in October 2019 was $153.2 million, which is an 11.5 per cent increase compared to October 2018, announces the National Bank of Georgia.
The volume of money transfers to Georgia in November 2019 was $151 million, which is a 13.3 per cent increase compared to November 2018, announces the National Bank of Georgia.
The volume of money transfers to Georgia in December 2019 was $172.3 million, which is a 14.2 per cent increase compared to December 2018, announces the National Bank of Georgia.
12,525 foreign citizens were working in Georgia in 2019 which is 828 more compared to the previous year, show data from the Revenue Service.
The volume of money transfers to Georgia in January 2020 was $125.6 million, which is a 8.6 per cent increase compared to January 2019, announces the National Bank of Georgia.
In order to support the reintegration of Georgian citizens returning from emigration to their home country, the government of Georgia is launching a new programme which will benefit 200 emigrants at the first stage, announces the IDPs and Eco-migrants Agency of Georgia.
